babies & children
Being born is a tremendous experience. Even in the best scenarios, tension patterns can be created in the newborn’s body that they may not be able to process or let go of easily. Some may also originate from their time in utero or from interventions. These patterns, if not released, can lead to challenges in health, development and well being for the child.
This is where Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) can be invaluable. A gentle, hands on listening modality that offers the potential for healing and resolution as baby (or child) is seen and heard with empathy. BCST can facilitate subtle shifts in the different tissues of the body. These shifts manifest as a softening and releasing of tension, a realigning of structure, and a freeing of compression. Newborn sessions can help to minimize repercussions of the birth experience to insure good health for well babies.
During a typical session with newborns and young children, I have mom or dad/partner parent lie or sit next to their child on the table. Being close to their parent helps children feel safe and secure. Sometimes young children would rather sit on the table and listen to their parent read a book or play with small toys. Older children are welcome to have a parent on the table as well, but are often happy to lie by themselves with their parent seated close by. It is important to respect what the child is feeling and is open to receiving. After taking a few moments to slow down and settle in with child and parents, I observe and listen. With my hands, I assess the quality and movement of the different tissues. I offer the child's system the opportunity to remedy sources of pain and dysfunction. I talk directly with babies, as well as parents, during sessions. Emotional releases can, and often, happen during a treatment. As healing occurs in these sessions, I hold a gentle, compassionate space for the child – and for the parents – to release the held experience.
